Douglas Funke

Douglas Funke is a Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE) and human factors engineer with more than 30 years of experience in research, development, and technology-driven industries. He holds a Master of Science degree in Industrial Engineering with a concentration in Human Factors and Ergonomics. Throughout his career, Doug served as a Principal Human Factors Engineer for several research and development organizations, where he specialized in making complex systems and technologies more intuitive, accessible, and user-friendly. His work focused on bridging the gap between technical innovation and human understanding, ensuring that advanced technologies could be effectively used and understood by the people who rely on them.

An accomplished writer and educator, Doug has authored numerous technical reports, articles, and publications covering topics such as automated highways, human learning principles, complex training systems, cybersecurity, and networked computer technologies. His work has appeared in professional journals, conference proceedings, and industry publications, reflecting his commitment to clear communication and practical application of human-centered design principles.

Following his retirement from the private sector, Doug founded Human First Ergonomics LLC, providing ergonomics consulting services throughout the Buffalo–Niagara region. Today, he continues to apply his expertise through writing and education.

Driven by a lifelong fascination with physics, cosmology, and the fundamental nature of the universe, Doug has authored his first book—a thought-provoking and accessible exploration of the key concepts behind Special and General Relativity. Drawing on his background in human factors and learning design, he presents these complex scientific ideas in a way that helps readers build a clear and intuitive understanding of the foundations of modern physics.
